Your Good Health?

One of the worst things about being a foreigner in a strange country is dealing with illness, particularly when you are confronted with a health system which differs from the one you are used to back home. Earlier this year we ran a survey on to find out a little more about our readers. One of the conclusions was that the healthcare system is one of the most baffling things about the Netherlands for foreigners – beaten only by the language and the tax system. In international surveys, the Dutch health system always scores extremely well, but for the ordinary folk trying to find their way around the maze of insurance policies, top-up cover and payment systems, the bureaucracy and spin is enough to give you palpitations.
