The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS)

Moving, Growing, Connecting

The AICS (pronounced ‘ace’): what do we do?

The AICS facilitates high-quality, accessible, community-based, international learning for students of all nationalities living in the Netherlands. Our vision is to be a community where learning is at the heart of everything we do.

The AICS caters to international families in the Netherlands, educating children ages 4 – 18. We offer the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

Moving and Growing: One Top School, Three Campuses

The AICS has been authorised by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and, within the last three years, we have tripled our number of campuses and are preparing to grow to accommodate approximately 2,000 students by the year 2023.

We are also excited to announce a new educational programme that is coming to the AICS Secondary School. In addition to our current offerings (IBMYP and IBDP), we are applying for authorisation to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme (IBCP), beginning in September 2020.

The IBCP is a two-year curriculum which provides an alternate pathway to the IBDP, and prepares students for further education, apprenticeship and/or employment. The Career-related Programme specifically facilitates students with a clear interest in, and desire to, combine practical and theoretical studies in Business. It is suitable for students who would like to pursue further education at the practical level and then move on to the university level.

Connecting Our Students and Campuses With the Dutch Community

AICS Main is currently situated in an office building and has approximately 1,100 students; 600 in Primary and 500 in Secondary. We expect to grow to approximately 1,200 students in the next two years and plan to move into our new state-of-the-art school building in the A.J. Ernststraat by September 2022 (or earlier).

The AICS Satellite campus now has approximately 180 students up until and including Group 6. Over the coming two years, the AICS Satellite will grow to include Groups 1-7. The AICS Satellite is situated in a modern school building opposite the Gelderlandplein shopping mall in Buitenveldert. This campus does not have a Secondary School department. All students will feed in to the Secondary School at our South East campus (unless otherwise specified and when special conditions apply).

AICS South East is a beautiful new custom-made school building in the Darlingstraat 2 in Amsterdam South East which offers both Primary and Secondary education. In the longer term, the school will move to the ‘Sand Castle’, a modern monument on Bijlmerdreef in Amsterdam South East. This is expected to take place in 2023.

We still have places available for new students at AICS Satellite and AICS South East.

If you wish to be a part of the AICS, please apply now. Our Admissions team will be happy to help you!
