Rotterdam International Secondary School continues to introduce new ideas, new developments and changes aimed at improving teaching and learning and at making sure that the students have the opportunity to maximize their potential. The accreditation processes of the CIS, NEASC and IBDP all ensure that RISS remains a dynamic educational institution.
This year the RISS has placed an intense emphasis on the arts. The opening of the Rotterdam International Music School, RIMS, is a highlight of the new developments in this area. RIMS operates after normal school hours, allowing students (and parents) the opportunity to learn piano, violin, trumpet, saxophone, guitar, drums and singing.
RISS has also added an Art Club to the list of after-school activities. Through the Art Club, students have the ability to focus on special projects and to be introduced to additional art mediums, exceeding the normal curriculum. The school furthermore offers many extra-curricular activities, including sports teams – soccer, basketball, volleyball and the track club – and the Model United Nations (MUN) as well as public speaking competitions, while RISS students also have the opportunity to develop and grow through involvement in the Math Club, Human Rights Club, Student Council, Yearbook Team and Green Team.
