Discover Eindhoven’s Technological, Design and Cultural Backgrounds

There are plenty of reasons to take a trip to the south to explore the city that is reinventing itself!

Although international tourists are not yet including Eindhoven on their ‘Must-see destinations’ list, there is plenty to explore in this city in the province of Noord-Brabant. This city of approximately 223,000 offers an international flare, which is influenced by its educational institutions and international companies that ensure a constant flow of expats relocating to the region. Internationals flock to Eindhoven to study at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Technical University Eindhoven and Fontys University of Applied Sciences, while expats relocate to work for the numerous high-tech companies in the area.

There is a young, creative energy that runs through Eindhoven; a mixture of design and technology that releases a certain dynamic into the city.

Events Celebrating Technological, Design and Cultural Heritage

In the autumn, Eindhoven will embrace its artistic and technological sides with several events. During these months, visitors will flock to Eindhoven to experience the city in a variety of ways, while it will also provide a nice opportunity for locals to view their city from a different perspective.

The Light Route (September 18 – October 11) will give residents an excuse to bicycle around the city with kids in tow, while celebrating an historically cultural event; the liberation of Eindhoven by the Allies on September 18, 1944.

Dutch Design Week (October 17-25) is a 9-day event that has turned into the biggest design event in northern Europe. Now in its 13th edition, 2,400 designers attract 260,000 visitors to visit locations around the city, and open their eyes to the thriving design scene in Eindhoven.

During GLOW (November 7-14), 50 artists use the city as a canvas to create light installations, sculptures, projections and performances. The event takes place in mostly public areas, is free to attend and attracts 650,000 visitors.
