Computational Thinking

With influential technology leaders such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg urging schools to rethink their approach towards programming in school, it is clear that a new attitude to computing is a hot topic in the world of education. In this context, The British School in The Netherlands (BSN) has been taking the lead in implementing new learning strategies from the UK’s revised curriculum Study for Computing. This new framework focuses on introducing coding, programming and other technological skills to both junior and senior school students through Computer Science (CS), Information Technology (IT) and Digital Literacy (DL).

Having introduced algorithms in Year 1, coding in Year 4 and how to program in JavaScript, The BSN’s junior school students are ahead of the curve with a forward-thinking approach where technology is concerned. This incorporation has not only helped the school stand out in the technology game, but also enables its students to match their skills to the requirements of the industry.
